About TFE
Translators for Elders (TFE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2021, committed to breaking down language barriers for our cherished older adults. Our initiative emerged from the vision to create a positive impact in the lives of seniors through improved communication by satisfying their need for language services.
Today, we are also committed to serving underprivileged underserved communities, striving to provide assistance to more people in need. We also actively encourage the organization of various activities related to elderly groups to offer more communication and social practice opportunities for outstanding young volunteers.
Founders of TFE
Meng (Barbara) Zhang MAT ’22 and Helen Bartlett TLM ’22, two former students at Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS), transformed a class project from Professor Adam Wooten’s Social Localization and Translation Crowdsourcing Class into “Translators for Elders” (TFE), a pioneering crowdsourcing initiative aimed at assisting older adults with language barriers.
