Spotlight on Eldercare: Introducing National Council on Aging (NCOA)

“Aging with dignity shouldn’t be a stroke of luck.”

National Council on Aging (NCOA)

The National Council on Aging (NCOA), established in 1950, has been a pioneering force in advocating for the welfare of older adults in the United States. They played a key role in the abolition of mandatory retirement and the establishment of essential healthcare policies like Medicare and Medicaid. NCOA also supports local organizations that directly serve older adults, equipping them with resources and advanced digital tools. Their commitment goes beyond policy influence, focusing on tangible improvements in the lives of older generations.

NCOA’s vision today is centered on the belief that aging well is a universal right, regardless of gender, race, sexuality, income, or geographic location. With an ambitious goal to impact the health and economic security of 40 million older adults by 2030, NCOA’s efforts are particularly directed towards the most vulnerable groups, including women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, those with low incomes, and rural residents. This commitment to equitable aging encompasses not only advocacy and resource provision but also the enhancement of best practices in aging care. For NCOA, ensuring that every person ages with dignity and security is a matter of equity, justice, and a reflection of a caring and equitable society.
